Otto Niederer, left, and John C. Maclay, of Bell Telephone Laboratories, inspect a scale model of the sea plow they helped design.

The plow was used by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company’s Long Lines Department to bury below the ocean floor the shore-end sections of two transatlantic telephone cables off the coast of New Jersey.
