1962 - microwave link connects Monterey with San Jose

Over-the-horizon microwave link connects Monterey with San Jose, some 45 miles to the north. Some of the binary data signals beamed at 3,800-foot-high mountain ridge continue into space (dotted lines).

However, sufficient energy is diffracted by peaks to create communications path to San Jose receiver located at IBMís Advanced Systems Development Division Laboratory
