Data communications utilizing a computer and Western Union’s world-wide Telex commercial communications network was publicly demonstrated for the first time in a series of tests conducted last month by Honeywell Electronic Data Processing.
Dr. Joseph J. Eachus (left), Honeywell EDP staff scientist who developed communications equipment needed to link computer to Telex system, operates Telex teleprinter. J. Ernest Smith, Honeywell EDP executive vice president, holds magnetic tape reel containing computer’s instructions.
The computer-Telex link-up permits persons at remote locations to transmit and receive computer data, and to control processing of data by computer.
