NASA has revealed a new system of voice communication via a light beam that has both space and down-to-earth-potential.

It is called a Retrometer.

The space agency says it can assist astronauts in spacecraft docking operations and provide communication after they land on the bare face of a strange planet.

The Retrometer also may be used in industrial plants or factories, on construction sites, and in theaters and conventions for audience participation.
