The accompanying photograph shows a 160,000-kilowatt tandem-compound steam turbine-generator for the Brooklyn Edison Company being tested at the Schenectady Works of the General Electric Company. This unit is the largest single-shaft machine in the world to operate at 1800 r.p.m.
