POWER FOR DEFENSE E&MP 10.036a NEW DEFENSE POWER IN THE MAKING WESTINGHOUSE TRAFFORD FOUNDRY: - Pouring 83 tons of liquid iron for base of Westinghouse turbine, first step in creating 80,000 kilowatts of new defense power, enough to drive machinery of two steel mills. Foundry time table: five weeks to build mold; five minutes to fill it with molten metal at 2500 degrees F.; three more weeks to cool casting. Base being shipped (insert lower right) to turbine plant for machining.
