Deft, strong hands are needed to assist at the "birth" of an electric generator which will help propel electrically-driven ships now under construction for Uncle Sam's Merchant Marine.
Audrey Brook (foreground) and Helen Magyar, coil winders at the East Pittsburgh Works of the Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company, meet the requirements.
They are shown starting the coil winding operation in which copper coils are bound with glass tape insulation.
This is one of the initial steps in building an electric generator.
