In producing cold strip steel in the fastest cold strip steel mill in the world, the General Electric amplidyne is helping to produce 150 tons more steel per shift than the highest previous level.

The amplidyne is a device resembling a small generator, the basic elements of which are a short circuit and a coil arrangement known as a compensating field winding.

The word "MESTA" is on the amplidyne shown in this photograph.
