Electric Flood Lighting

Renewing the youth of the Statue of Liberty in preparation for the
day Germany or Japan surrenders, workmen this week completed modernizing her floodlighting
system.
Samuel G. Hibben, director of applied lighting for the Westinghouse Lamp Division
who guided the relighting, is shown focusing one of the battery of 16 1,000-watt
incandescent floodlights which is located at the base of the monument under the face of
the figure.
