Electric Furnaces
December 15, 1942
Gun barrels to blast the Axis will be hardened and tempered in these seven-ton electric furnaces built at the Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company's East Pittsburgh, Pa., Works.
Shown being readied for shipment to a steel plant, the furnace shells later will be lined with brick and equipped with [sic] chrom-nickel alloy heating elements. Heat at 1650 degrees Fahrenheit will be supplied to toughen the gun barrels.
