Electric Generators

August 31, 1944

Demonstrating the self-propelled aircraft electric generator is Joe Finck, one of the three mechanics who developed the idea of mounting the generator on the chassis of a 3-wheel gasoline scooter.

The generator provides external electric current for starting airplane engines or for checking radio and other electrical equipment.

Mounting the generator on the scooter provides a quick and easy method of getting the generator to the planes.

The scooter-generator was devised and constructed at the Wichita Airport, headquarters for the Midwestern District of the Materiel Command.
