Electric Lighting
June 27, 1938
Horse racing may join the ranks with other sports -- baseball, softball, football, tennis, swimming, and many others -- now enjoyed by millions at night under artificial illumination.
General Electric engineers, who have been experimenting with the lighting of horse-racing tracks, recently demonstrated their illumination at the Altamont, N.Y., fair grounds.
Visibility from the standpoint of spectators, horses, and jockeys was exhibited to any interested southern sportsman. This picture, taken along a short stretch of track illuminated in front of the Altamont grandstand, illustrates the high visibility on the track.
