End on, close-up view of sodium vapor lamp showing reflector above. The circle at lower center of complete unit is end view of the vacuum bottle within which the sodium vapor lamp is enclosed.

The vacuum bottle container keeps in the heat of the lamp and maintains it at the high temperature necessary for sodium vapor to radiate its golden yellow light.
