The midget transformer core shown above is made from a slice cut out of a metal crystal which Dr. Sidney Siegel produces in an electric induction furnace at the Westinghouse Research Laboratories.

This core undergoes electrical tests in Dr. Siegel's search for better magnetic materials for transformer cores.
