Connecticut's marine research laboratory at Noank, near Groton, Conn.
Equipped with fuel cell power developed by Allis-Chalmers research
scientists at Milwaukee, Wis., the one-man submarine research and
test vessel is owned by General Dynamics/Electric Boat Division of
Groton. It is the world's first submersible powered by a fuel cell,
which converts the chemical energy of hydrazine and oxygen directly
into electricity.
