CONTROLLER REGULATES FUEL CELL TRACTORE&MP59.026 Fuel Cells March 24, 1959 (243-59) A mixture of fuel gasses - largely propane - and oxygen react in an electrolyte within 1,008 fuel cells to provide the electricity that powers this experimental Allis-Chalmers tractor. The compact controller to the left of the driver controls the engineless tractor's speed and can reverse its direction. The fuel cell tractor develops 3,000 pounds of drawbar pull, more than enough to pull a multiple-bottom plow in field tests. Original Caption by Science Service |
