A man-made stroke of "hot lightning" leaped a two-foot gap and set fire to this haystack in front of the high voltage laboratory at the Sharon division of the Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company.

This was the first public demonstration of the hot element of artificial lightning which has been captured by Westinghouse engineers.
