ELECTRICAL LACE

When an arc is extinguished and re-established 120 times a second in synchronism with the reversing direction of a 60-cycle alternating current power supply, a series of parallel lines or striations are produced and these are made visible by fanning the arc with air currents.

To eliminate the light diffusion between the lines, the camera shutter was so timed as to pick up only the most vivid details of the delicate electrical lace.
