MODEL OF JAPANESE NAKAJIMA TORPEDO BOMBER
[print 6 ]Prints 5 and 6 show the mock-up model of the Japanese Nakajima Torpedo Bomber suspended between the towers at the University of New Mexico Proving Ground.
This sequence shows the development of a black powder burst on a target using 5"/38 projectiles fuzed with the Navy proximity fuze.
Pattern tests of this kind were conducted to determine the location of proximity bursts with respect to various targets.
Note that the firing in the side view is from left to right and that the original point of burst is the most left hand part of the white smoke forward of the target.
