SCHENECTADY, N.Y., Mar .30 -- King-sized klystron tube developed for pulsed radar systems by General Electric's Power Tube Department is one of the largest and most powerful ever built.

Designated the Z-3057, the L-band developmental klystron, which has been successfully tested at 15 megawatts peak power and 22.5 kilowatts average power output, is now ready for factory production.

GENERAL ELECTRIC ANNOUNCES
SUCCESSFUL TESTING OF 15 MEGAWATT KLYSTRON

SCHENECTADY, N.Y., Mar. 30 -- The successful testing of the Z-3057 developmental L-band klystron at 15 megawatts peak power and 22.5 kilowatts average power output has been announced by General Electric's Power Tube Department.

One of several super-power klystrons under development at General Electric, the Z-3057 is specially designed for pulsed radar systems. It is one of the most powerful factory-produced, L-band radar klystrons ever tested.

According to General Electric engineers, the 15 megawatt operation was achieved as a result of experience gained in the development and quantity production of 10 megawatt klystrons for military applications.

Developmental work to increase the operating band width and achieve even higher power ratings of other types is now being carried out at the department's Microwave Laboratory at Palo Alto, Calif.
