Cleveland, O., June 30 - These great beacons will soon stab skies over mountains and plains with powerful light beams to guide night flying airman. They are 36-inch, double end rotating beacons, shown coming off the production line at the Cleveland, Ohio, Lighting Division of the Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company. Each rotating beacon uses a 1,000 watt lamp that throws a 1,800,000 candle power beam in two directions simultaneously. On clear nights, these beams can be seen for 20 miles.
