Morse's first public demonstration of his history-making telegraph was given here in the Geological Cabinet at New York University on January 24, 1838. The message, relayed between two rooms, was "Attention, the Universe! By Kingdoms, Right Wheel!" On May 24, the nation will observe the centennial of his first successful message between Washington and Baltimore - "What Hath God Wrought!"
